What changed — We now list anniversaries and, for purchases, the amount, currency and App Store country among the information we collect, and explain that your city's location is sent to Apple (WeatherKit) to show the weather. We added that the operator may review specific content when it is reported or suspected of breaking the law or our Terms, along with how long reports and backups are kept, how data is destroyed, our security measures, more detail on international transfers, and where to seek help. Because some of these changes may work against you, we posted them on October 11, 2026, and they take effect on November 10, 2026.
Naru (the “Service”) is an app for couples to see each other's day at a glance. This policy explains what the Service collects and how it is used, kept, and destroyed.
You sign in with an Apple or Google account. The Service does not send its own verification emails.
Clipboard — on the invite-code screen, the Service only checks whether your clipboard holds a number or a link, to decide whether to show a paste button. It reads the clipboard only when you tap paste, and stores or sends nothing from it other than the invite code you paste.
Neither the app nor the website uses cookies or similar tools that automatically collect behavioural information.
We use this information only to provide and improve the Service — showing both people's local times, weather, events, notes, bucket items, and Moments; working out when you are both free; sending notifications; confirming payments and granting membership access; managing accounts; usage statistics and improvements; handling feedback; handling reports and responding to violations of our Terms; and beta invitations and announcements. We do not advertise, track behaviour, or sell data, and we use no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
Once you connect with a partner, they can see your nickname, city, time zone, sleep hours, Naru character, events, notes, shared bucket items, Moments, and anniversary. This is the core of the Service.
Events from connected calendars are also shown to your partner. If you connect iPhone or Google Calendar, the titles, times, and notes of events in the calendars you select are visible to them. You choose which calendars to share in the app; calendars you don't select are never imported.
When you disconnect, sharing stops and imported calendar events and Moments are deleted. Anything already shown on your partner's device before then cannot be recalled.
The operator does not routinely look at your events, notes, photos, or other content. We may view specific content, only as far as needed, when:
Any action we take as a result (removing content, restricting use, reporting to authorities) follows our Terms of Service.
Data is stored with the cloud backend Supabase, on servers located in Singapore. Your personal data is therefore stored and processed outside Korea to provide the Service (to perform our agreement with you).
When and how — data is sent over the network whenever you use the app, and traffic between your device and servers is encrypted with HTTPS.
How to refuse, and what happens — the transfer to Supabase is essential to the Service, so if you don't want it you can stop using the Service by deleting your account in the app; you will then be unable to use the Service. Notifications and Google Calendar are optional: turning them off or disconnecting stops those transfers, and everything else keeps working. Weather lookups use only your city's location, never your account information.
We keep your personal data for as long as your account exists and destroy it without delay when you delete the account. Feedback you sent is deleted along with the account. Beta applications previously submitted through the website are kept for 90 days from submission and then destroyed; you can also ask us to delete them sooner using the contact below.
We back up the database daily for disaster recovery and keep each backup for up to 30 days before it is deleted in turn. Data you delete disappears from the Service right away but may remain in backups for up to 30 days, during which it is used only for disaster recovery.
The following remain for a set period even after account deletion.
Where other laws require retention, we may keep data for the period they specify.
Personal data whose retention period has ended or whose purpose has been fulfilled is destroyed without delay. Data we must keep by law is stored separately from other data. Electronic files are deleted in a way that cannot be recovered; the Service does not keep personal data on paper.
The Service is not directed to children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Except where required by law, we do not sell or hand personal data to third parties. We entrust processing only to the infrastructure provider needed to run the Service (Supabase). Sign-in happens through Apple or Google accounts, and we receive the information needed — such as an email address — from whichever provider you choose.
Where the law requires or permits reporting — for example non-consensual intimate images or child sexual abuse material — or where an authority requests it through lawful process, we may provide the necessary information to the relevant authorities.
If you connect Google Calendar, the Service receives calendar information from Google within the read-only scope you granted. Information received from Google is used only for the purposes listed in “2. Why We Use It”; it is not used for advertising, not sold to third parties, and not read by humans. You can disconnect at any time in the app or from your Google account security settings.
Naru's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Payments for paid memberships are processed by Apple. The Service receives no payment method details — only the transaction identifier and status needed to confirm a purchase.
You may ask at any time to see, correct, or delete your personal data, or to stop its processing. In the app you can view and change your nickname, city, sleep hours, character, anniversary, and notification settings; you can disconnect a connected calendar at any time; and you can delete your data by deleting your account. For anything else, please use the contact below — we will handle it without delay and let you know the result.
The Service has a Data Protection Officer who oversees how personal data is handled and responds to questions and complaints.

If this policy changes, we update this page and announce the effective date at least 7 days in advance. Significant changes that work against you — such as collecting new kinds of data or using it for new purposes — are announced at least 30 days in advance, and we ask for your consent again where needed.
